Santos received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville in 2014.

While in college Santos spent a year completing a co-op, including making and reviewing technical drawings using 3D modeling software, and assisting on the manufacturing floor. Santos began his professional career in research and design in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was responsible for designing new commercial refrigeration systems to meet and exceed new regulatory standards and ease of manufacturability. Additional responsibilities included: scoping out new cutting-edge technology, working with vendors to implement products, heat load calculations, 3D modeling, wiring design, prototype construction, laboratory testing, regulatory compliance, and production implementation.

Santos then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he was appointed Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer. Here he worked on developing new, precise, temperature-controlled systems such as fractional horsepower chillers, benchtop chillers, circulator baths, and many other products. In addition to product design, Santos also contributed to the design and layout of a new engineering facility, and brought in new technology to facilitate production.
